What Is a QR Code?
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned using a smartphone camera. Unlike traditional barcodes that only hold numbers, QR codes can store URLs, text, contact information, Wi-Fi credentials, payment details, and much more. They were invented in 1994 by Denso Wave in Japan and have become essential for digital payments, marketing, and contactless information sharing.
In India, QR codes are everywhere — from UPI payment displays at kirana stores to restaurant menus, digital visiting cards, and event registrations. The Tools24 QR Code Generator makes it easy to create your own professional QR codes for any of these purposes.
How to Create a QR Code

- Customize colors and style: Pick foreground and background colors, gradient, dot style, and eye style.
- Add a logo (optional): Upload your brand logo and adjust size and margin.
- Add a frame (optional): Choose a preset frame text or enter custom text.
- Select download size: Choose from 256px to 2048px or set a custom size.

How to Create a UPI QR Code
UPI (Unified Payments Interface) QR codes are widely used across India for digital payments. With the Tools24 UPI QR Code Generator, shops, restaurants, and small businesses can create payment QR codes for free.
- Select the UPI tab in the QR type selector.
- Enter your UPI ID (e.g., yourname@upi, yourname@okaxis, yourname@ybl).
- Enter your Payee Name as registered with your UPI app.
- Optionally enter an Amount and Transaction Note.
- Click Download to save your UPI QR code.
When customers scan this QR code using any UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, etc.), the payment details auto-fill. Always verify your UPI details before sharing or printing your QR code.
How to Create a Wi-Fi QR Code
A Wi-Fi QR code lets visitors connect to your Wi-Fi network by simply scanning the code — no need to type a long password. Perfect for cafes, restaurants, hotels, offices, and homes.
- Select the Wi-Fi tab.
- Enter your Wi-Fi Name (SSID).
- Enter your Password.
- Select the Security type (WPA/WPA2, WEP, or None).
- Indicate if your network is Hidden.
- Download your Wi-Fi QR code and display it for guests.
How to Create a WhatsApp QR Code
A WhatsApp QR code lets customers message you instantly on WhatsApp without saving your number. Great for businesses, customer support, and personal use.
- Select the WhatsApp tab.
- Choose your Country Code (default: +91 India).
- Enter your Phone Number.
- Optionally add a pre-filled Message.
- Download and share your WhatsApp QR code.
When someone scans the QR code, WhatsApp opens with a chat to your number and the pre-filled message ready to send.
How to Create a Business Card QR Code (vCard)
A vCard QR code contains your complete contact information. When scanned, it opens directly in the phone's contacts app — perfect for digital visiting cards at weddings, networking events, and business meetings.
- Select the vCard tab.
- Enter your Name, Company, Job Title, Phone, Email, Website, and Address.
- Download your digital visiting card QR code.
This is especially popular in India for marriage biodata, digital business cards, and professional networking.
How to Download a QR Code
The Tools24 QR Code Generator supports four download formats:
- PNG: Best for general use. Transparent background not supported (use SVG for that).
- JPG: Smallest file size. Good for email and web.
- WebP: Modern format with excellent compression and quality.
- SVG: True vector format. Scales infinitely without quality loss. Best for printing.
For printing, use SVG or a high-resolution PNG (1024px or 2048px). For web use, PNG or WebP at 512px is usually sufficient.
QR Code Safety Tips
- Test before printing: Always scan your QR code with multiple devices before printing or sharing.
- Maintain contrast: Use dark foreground colors on light backgrounds for best scanability.
- Don't make QR codes too small: For print, ensure the QR code is at least 2cm × 2cm.
- Use appropriate error correction: Use level H (High) when adding a logo or printing on materials that may get damaged.
- Keep the quiet zone: Maintain white space around the QR code for reliable scanning.
- Verify UPI details: Always double-check UPI IDs and payee names before sharing payment QR codes.
- Use HTTPS URLs: For URL QR codes, always use https:// links for security.
